24 Hours In Your Skin – The Best Times To Moisturize, Exfoliate and Exercise

Skin Through The Day

Timing is everything!  Your skin has a daily schedule and understanding your skins' needs will increase the effectiveness of your skincare products, exercise routine and sleep schedule:

7 am – 10 am

  • This is the prime time for puffiness and creases, as lymphatic fluid pools while you sleep, especially under the eyes. So try a cold compress and apply Eye Wonder Eye Cream ($42) The triple action, peptide formula helps reduce the look of dark circles, puffiness and wrinkles.

  • Skin is at its most sensitive right now, so save the exfoliating and pimple squeezing for later.

Skin Cycle

10 am – 1 pm

  • During this period, our levels of adrenaline (which fight stress) and endorphins (natural painkillers) are highest, making it the perfect time for ouch-inducing treatments like laser hair removal or waxing.

Skin Cycle

1 pm – 3 pm

  • These are the hours when the skin is at its best and the natural barriers are functioning optimally, making it the best time of the day for chemical peels and microdermabrasion.
  • However, this also the time when you face peak sun damage. Twenty minutes in the midday sun can cause more skin damage than two hours in the early morning, so reapply the SPF.

Skin Cycle 24 Hours

3 pm – 5 pm

  • There is a reason behind the dreaded afternoon oil slick: Oil-producing glands pump out twice as much at this time, compared to the rest of the day. Soak up up the shine with blotting papers, then apply a thin layer of Face Base Oil-Free Foundation ($25)

Powder Foundation

5 pm – 7 pm

  • This is the best time to hit the gym, your energy levels are high and muscles and joints are at their warmest, lessening chances of injury.

Skin 24 Hour Cycle

7 pm – 9 pm

  • Blood vessels are at their most dilated now, making us go red most easily. So make sure you use some concealer to hide the flush. Wonders Of The World Concealer ($17) corrects and covers redness, shadows and blemishes.

Skin Cycle

9 pm – 11 pm

  • Your skin is more receptive in the evening, when skin temperature is higher and the surface layer more porous, allowing for greater penetration of active ingredients. Start by washing away makeup and grime to prevent clogged pores with Detox Purifying Facial Cleanser ($24). Now is also an ideal time for a great exfoliation treatment like Brighten Up ($34) which will improve skin texture for brighter looking skin immediately.

Skin Cycle Best Time To Exfoliate

11 pm

  • The hormone that triggers sleep – melatonin – peaks at around this time, making 11 pm the hour we should go to bed for maximum skin benefits. The whole cycle starts again in the morning!

Makeup Artist Tips For Perfect Skin At Any Age

Our head makeup artist, Gargi Patel, has worked with every kind of skin imaginable.  We asked her what it takes to maintain perfect skin as we age.

Vasanti Girl: What's the biggest mistake you see women make in their beauty routines?

Gargi: The biggest mistake I see is women not taking care of their skin as they age.  Cleansing and hydrating regularly keeps skin in optimal health and looking its best.  A skincare regimen doesn't need to be complicated and time consuming, it can be as simple as cleansing with Detox Facial Cleanser and hydrating with Eye Wonder.

Vasanti Girl: What are your best makeup tips for women that want to look younger?

Gargi: I think women should be open to changing up their routine as they mature.  Skin gets dryer with age, so stick with sheer foundations like our Liquid Cover Up and reduce the amount of powder you use for a more natural look.  Highlight the lash line by curling the lashes and applying a conditioning mascara like our Long Lash formula.  Finish off the look by choosing a bright lip shade to brighten up the face.

Treating Dark Under Eye Circles With Haloxyl

Hundreds of thousands of women suffer from dark under eye circles, it's a frustrating problem to have, darkness under the eyes can make you look tired and run down even when you're feeling great.  We talk a lot about how Eye Wonder can help eliminate dark circles but we've never really discussed how the technology works, so here's your science lesson for the day.

The active ingredient in Eye Wonder that treats dark circles is called Haloxyl and whether the pigmentation under your eyes is caused by genetics, stress, or lack of moisture, Haloxyl works to treat all these issues.  Haloxyl is a combination of two peptides, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7. It works by absorbing and eliminating colored blood pigments in the skin that are responsible for dark circles under the eyes. The peptide components in Haloxyl help to increase firmness in the capillaries, which prevents them from rupturing and leaking haemoglobin into the skin.It has also been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect and can help to reinforce the firmness and tone of the eye area.

We've found that Eye Wonder users start to see a decrease in dark circles within 28 days of use.  This multi-tasking eye cream also works to reduce puffiness and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
