5 Time Saving Beauty Tips From Our Readers

Do you ever feel like you're perpetually running late? We asked some of our readers for their favourite time saving morning beauty tips.

"When I wake up and don't have time to wash my hair, I apply a touch of loose translucent powder to the roots of my hair to absorb oil." – Priti

"I just dot concealer where I need it and even out the rest of my face with powder.  A little lipgloss, a little mascara and I'm out the door." – Karie

"I put a cream base on my eyelids before my eyeshadow, this way my shadow lasts all day and I don't have to take time out of my day to reapply." – Krishna

"My first priority is my brows, if my brows are filled in I feel instantly put together.  I fill them in with powder every morning and can do it in about 30 seconds." – Miri

"I try to multi-task as much as possible, I use one pink cream blush on my cheeks, lips and eyes." – Susanne

Our 5 Favourite Beauty Trends of 2012

1. Unconventional Eyeliner: This year we said goodbye to regular eyeliner replacing it with extreme cat eyes and geometric shapes.

2. Bold Brows: Strong brows on the runway inspired us to ditch our tweezers and fill in our brows to the extreme.

3. Gilded Lids: Gold eyeshadow was an easy go-to this year for a hint of glitter.  On date nights we grabbed for our Sand Dune shimmer powder.

4. Natural Makeup: Au naturel was definitely in this year and one of our favourite beauty trends for it's fresh and modern look (and the time it saved us getting ready).

5. Burgundy Lipstick: Burgundy and plum lip shades were on every runway, at every movie premiere and on every celebrity this year.  Vasanti Kenya is a perfect plum shade to rock this trend.

Tips & Tricks: Shimmer Powder

Shimmer powders are the true workhorses of our cosmetic kit.  With a little creativity you can use your shimmer powders to create a multitude of effects.  Here's some tips from our Vasanti Girls on how you can take advantage of these mutli-tasking superstars.

  • Metallic Eyes: Use shimmer powder all over the lids for a truly metallic foil finish.  For true shimmer, pat the powder on with a brush or your fingers instead of blending.  Choose from any single shade or mix and match for a customized shade of shine.
  • Nail Lacquer: Try mixing your favourite shimmer with clear nail polish to create a personalized shade.  Control the intensity of the shade by playing with the polish to powder ratio.  How cool would this look with a rich gem-toned shade like Twilight or Rainforest?
  • Lip Gloss: Create a signature lip shade by mixing shimmer powder with your favourite Lipshine. We love mixing Baltic Lipshine with a touch of Northern Lights Shimmer for out of this world lips.
  • Cheek Highlight: For a gorgeous peachy golden highlight brush a light dusting of Flamingo Fire (pictured above) across your cheekbones.

Get The Look: Lipstick Mixologist

Fall makeup trends tend to be on the darker side, matching both the weather and what's on the runways.  To switch things up, try adding some brightness to your makeup by exchanging traditional neutrals for a bright, bold lip.  You can create your own custom lip shades by becoming a lipstick mixologist, try mixing different colours right on your lips to achieve a signature shade.  To get a deep pink lip like in the above pic, mix Denmark and Belarus Ultra Luxe Lipsticks, by layering one over the other. Play with the amount applied of each until you get the shade you want.

Keep the rest of the look fairly simple so as not to compete with your standout lips. Get a pink flush with Everest Blush applied on the apples of the cheeks.  Keep eyes neutral and shimmery with Moondust Shimmer Powder on the lids and bottom lash line and Arctic Shimmer Powder on the brow bone to highlight.
