Style Alert: Spring Lace – The Choice Of Princess Brides and Madonna

Spring Lace Spring 2013

Next time you head out shopping turn away from the sweaters and shield your eyes from the galoshes, the time to shop for Spring is now!  Lace is going to be big for Spring, whether used as an accent or as the main attraction.  Look for lace dresses, tops, skirts or accessories to add some elegance and femininity to your current rotation.  Find links to our above picks at the bottom of the post.

History of Lace in Fashion

Soft and feminine, lace – the word itself derived from the Latin laqueus, meaning loop or noose is never far from the surface of women’s fashions. Lace production first boomed in Europe during the 1700s. Handcrafted needle-made lace was not only a labor-intensive effort, but also involved high amounts of personal skill. Worn as a sign of prestige and wealth, it was among the most valued of a household’s possessions. Some periods of history since then have been more lace obsessed than others, but the strong feeling for it this time around speaks to our growing desire for heritage styles with long-lasting heirloom qualities.

Lace Trend Lace Trend
Both traditional and modern, demure and sexy, girlish and womanly, it’s no wonder it’s so popular with royal brides, Madonna and Italian designers, Dolce & Gabbana. We can't think of another fabric that encompasses two such opposite ends of the spectrum.

Our Lacy Pick
Valentino dress

If we were going to break the bank (or rob one) our dream pick for a lacy splurge would be this red lacy Valentino strapless number ($7,135 CAD).

Trend Alert: Spring Whites Inspired By The Runway

Spring 2013 Trend White

The Spring/Summer 2013 runways were exploding with white.  Textured white, simple crisp white, laser cut white, white accessories, white stilettos, white….well you get the idea.   We love this look and may even summon up the guts to add it into our spring wardrobe rotation this year.

It feels like stylish people everywhere can pull off all white and look as good at the end of the day as they did when they got dressed.  How do they do this - do they avoid food and beverages?  Stay away from small children and pets?  Never sit down?  We know that if we put on a white outfit like one of our favourites below, it would be a disaster from our first sip of coffee.

Spring trend 2013 White

If you're comfortable in white and want to take it to the next level, you can try this two-trend-in-one look.  Here, white is combined with embroidery, lace and eyelet giving it an almost antiquey vibe.  It's a modern adaption of an old world style and it's just so pretty.

Trend Alert: Forest Green

Black is always in fashion but we're also keeping our eye on some of the edgier fall shades for 2012.  We've examined oxblood and gothic coloured looks and now we're finding ourselves a little bit obsessed with these gorgous greens in shades of emerald, olive, fern and army.
